Search and Rescue With Drones

Drone Search and Rescue

Search and rescue organizations around the world are using drones as a method to cover vast spaces very quickly. Drones offer a safe, reliable and efficient way to take high resolution images of large areas to search for clues when operating a search and rescue mission. Images are taken of a large area and then the images are distributed to volunteers online to search for clues about missing people. The biggest sign in an image that a person is nearby is bright colors. There are also financial advantages to using a drone. Helicopters can cost $1,500 to $3,000 per hour, however, a drone’s expenses can run as low as $9 an hour. And in comparison to most aircraft that fly at an altitude of 500 feet, a drone hovering at an altitude of 200 feet potentially increases the resolution of the images by greater than four times.
