Despite the news reports of drones hindering fire fighters from doing their jobs last year, there are also so bright spots when it comes to drones and fire fighting. In Menlo Park, California, fire fighters are adding drones to their arsenal to combat emergencies. The fire fighters in Menlo Park have received special permission from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to test a program that uses drones for reconnaissance during emergency situations. This includes search and rescue as well as getting different visual perspectives on actual fires. This would normally be done with manned helicopters, but drones are cheaper and much faster to get up in the air.
